About
I gained a BSc in Archaeology from the University of Bradford completing a dissertation analysing the processes involved in preparing, running and publishing practical archaeological research in ancient urban spaces. I followed this by undertaking an MA in GIS, Landscape Archaeology and Virtual Environments at the University of Birmingham again focussing my research on ancient urban environments. My dissertation detailed the development of a methodology which allows archaeologists to visualise levels of natural light in ancient buildings using 3D reconstruction and unbiased physically accurate light rendering techniques.
I am currently working towards my PhD at the University of Kent as part of the Visualising the Late Antique City Project. I will be creating 3D reconstructions of various late antique buildings and areas and examining how these spaces work with particular focus on the use of natural light within them. I will also be using the work to analyse how best to display the differing levels of knowledge and imagination present in all virtual reconstructions.
Alongside my academic research I have endeavoured to gain a high level of practical archaeological experience and have spent over four years working in a variety of roles within the commercial archaeology sector in the UK and Ireland. I currently work part time as an archaeologist and illustrator for Wessex Archaeology, one of the largest archaeological contractors in the UK. My duties include creating digital images for site reports, undertaking archaeological watching briefs and writing reports for clients.
My main areas of expertise are archaeological surveying, excavation, recording and report writing and digital illustration and data management using AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Corel Draw, 3DS Max, Blender, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
